01: Creative Networks 01

Poster (Main Entrance)
  • Please use the ‘Creative Networks at Leeds College of Art’ combined logo.
  • Include ‘Creative Networks welcomes you to an evening with… Adam Hughes & Matt Forsythe’.
  • Please include past guests names scattered in the background (Adam Buxton, Elizabeth Price, Erik Kessels, Jamal Edwards, Danny Leigh, Jimmy Choo, Wayne Hemingway, David Shrigley).
  • The idea is that we can re-use this set design for ongoing events and update the completed event guests to the background so it is worth considering the amount of space for future guests.
  • Size should be A1 to be placed above reception where ‘Yes’ is currently displayed on the wall.
  • In regards to colour options. If you base it on the new colour combinations I have sent through on the PDF and I can forward you the separate designs when we receive them. If you could complete a couple of different options that would be great.

‘Sign in Here’ sign
  • Size should be A2.
  • If you could include the new CN logo.
  • Please include ‘Sign in Here’ and an arrow directing people into the gallery.
  • Once again, please include a few colour options adhering to the new branding options.

Arrows directing people through the College
  • Cartoon hand arrows as discussed yesterday.

Additional artwork
  • If you could complete a range of designs for both artists as you discussed yesterday. (I have included some copy below that you could use for both artists.)
  • I have requested some Adam Hughes artwork from Thought Bubble Festival, he hasn’t even supplied them with any as yet but will forward if I receive it. If not I would go ahead and use some of his images I am sure this will not be an issue.
  • Vinyl lettering to go on the large exhibition boards in the café outlining the guest’s names and CN 01 etc.

Deadline

If you could send through some designs by Wednesday 22 October that would be great, I am on annual leave from the 23 October but Louise Miller will be available in my absence.

Initial ideas
The first Creative Networks of the year consists of two visiting speakers; Adam Hughes and Matt Forsythe, this makes our task of designing a series of posters a lot more difficult because the two artists have completely different illustrative styles. The posters will have to be in similar styles so that the event has a consistent branding and doesn't feel disjointed, like two separate events as opposed to the singular creative networks.

Tom who we report back to with our design decisions is also on annual leave two weeks prior to the event making it slightly more rushed because he would like final drafts before he goes away leaving us only a few weeks to manage this brief along side other projects the three of us have running.

Matt Forsythe
Matt Forsythe is the lead designer on the hugely successful Cartoon Network show Adventure Time. He is also the award winning creator of Ojingogo, Jinchalo and has worked as an illustrator for publications such as the NY Times and Wall St. Journal. Matt will discuss his creative journey and provide an insight of what it is like behind the scenes at the Adventure Time studio.

Adam Hughes
Adam Hughes is renowned for work for DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Dark Horse Comics, Lucasfilm among others his stylised renderings of women, super heroines, damsels in distress, figures in fantasy. He will discuss the variety of work he has completed in his career and how he went from being completely self-taught to becoming one of the most celebrated comic book illustrators in the world.

Today we received the news that Adam Hughes has had to pull out of thoughtbubble and creative networks 2 days before the event due to family problems. This means two new illustrators have been added to the event, giving us little time to design and get approval before print. Luckily the design concept we chose is flexible enabling to use the same design for different people. The new designers are;

Cameron Stewart

'Cameron Stewart is the writer/illustrator of Batgirl, Fight Club 2Batman and Robin, BPRDSeaguy, Seven Soldiers: The Manhattan Guardian,The Other Side, Catwoman, The Apocalipstix, Assassin’s Creed, SuicideGirls, and many more. He has been nominated for Shuster, Eagle, Harvey and Eisner Awards, and his original webseries Sin Titulo won the 2010 Eisner and Shuster Awards for Best Digital Comic.'

Babs Tarr
'Barbara (aka Babs) grew up in the sunny and beautiful Charleston, SC. She attended the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD where she received her BFA in Illustration. She currently is settled west in San Francisco, CA where she is living the dream working as a full time freelance illustrator!'

Luckily the the two new illustrators work fit in well with out concept and tie in well with our colour choices.
